The Science of Hydration for Runners
Ever hit mile 10 and felt your legs tighten, your focus fade, and your stride collapse? That’s not just fatigue—that’s likely dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance.
When you run, your body loses fluid and essential minerals through sweat. This isn’t just water loss—it’s sodium, potassium, and magnesium leaving your system. And that matters, a lot:

Fluid Balance
Sodium and potassium regulate water movement in and out of cells. Without them, water doesn’t hydrate you effectively.

Muscle Function
Magnesium supports muscle contractions. Low magnesium? Hello cramps.

Energy and Recovery
Electrolytes help transmit nerve signals, maintain blood pressure, and reduce exercise-induced fatigue.

Studies show losing just 2% of your body weight in fluids can impair performance, cognition, and mood. And during a half marathon, the average runner loses between 900–1,800 mg of sodium per liter of sweat. That's why sipping plain water isn’t enough. You need electrolytes that actually support your body in motion.
Why Voli Stands Out?
Not all electrolyte drinks are created equal. Many are overloaded with sugar or artificial ingredients—not exactly what your body wants before, during, or after a run. Voli Hydration is different.
Inspired by active lifestyles like those in Santa Barbara, Voli was crafted to fuel your runs with clean, natural hydration.

Practical Tips for Race Day Hydration
Training for November 9? Here's how to hydrate smart:

Start hydrating early. In race week, drink 80-100 oz of water daily and add one Voli Hydration stick to help balance electrolytes. It keeps energy up and dehydration down.
On race day, drink 16–20 oz of fluids 2–3 hours before the start. Then sip another 6–8 oz of Voli 15–20 minutes before go time.

Sip every 15–20 minutes to stay ahead of thirst. Use aid stations every 2–3 miles—alternate between water and Voli to maintain hydration. If carrying your own, start early and sip often.
Early elevation gain makes consistent hydration essential for strength and focus.

Within 30 minutes, drink 16–24 oz—ideally with Voli—to replenish lost electrolytes and aid recovery.
Pair with a light snack and keep sipping fluids the rest of the day to bounce back faster.

With the course’s 150ft elevation gain in miles 1–5, early hydration is key to tackling the Mesa climb strong.
